I would like to say that we are busy, but that word doesn’t seem have the right amount of “umph” to it. Maybe if I put it in all caps? We are BUSY. Real busy.
Pete is (still) working tirelessly. He teaches at the school during the day, then after school he goes and works the equivalent of another full work day, either teaching private lessons or doing the ORCHKids Program downtown (which was featured on 60 Minutes not too long ago, good for them).
Luke is the sweetest little monster God ever created. He is a really affectionate little boy and loves to give hugs and kisses to me, Daddy and the dogs. He is a little wild – not a lot – just enough to be really fun and totally engaging. For the most part, he is very charming and will sweetly wave at ladies in the grocery store or clap his hands and smile for no apparent reason (I assume he is giving himself a round of applause, considering he is a toddler and believes the entire universe revolves around him)
Luke is my little athlete – he has been able to kick a ball for several months and can now “dribble” around the house. He can throw quite far and quite hard, both over- and under-hand. He can climb just about anything, as well as walk and/or crawl up stairs, and he can walk down an entire flight of stairs with ease and nothing but a wall to touch for balance. He is also getting seriously tall – he definitely just had a growth spurt, it seems like he picked up a few inches as the blink of an eye. He can reach everything now and loves to be mischievous and take things off the counters and kitchen table.
Vocally he can do some things that surprise me, but he is not a big talker at all. He used to identify many things but now he gets incredibly shy when you ask him. It was like the minute he realized he had free will, he didn’t want to talk when prompted any more. He also loves to tell you no – he will even say no to cookies, no matter how badly he wants them! But then, sometimes he will blurt something out that astonishes me, like “What is it?” or “No dogs, stop” and then I’m like – wow – you can speak! But then, I can’t get him to say “More” (like he used to) if he wants more milk or food. It’s like a battle of the wills! He also tries to sing (he does a GREAT Taylor Swift impersonation, haha) and can make the sounds of many animals, like a chicken, horse, bear, lion, dolphin, mouse and more.
Luke still very much loves his books and will sit through several of them. He pretend-reads them on his own and loves to look at the pictures and talk in his little German-sounding language. He understands SO MUCH of what I say that it’s almost a little freaky. He still has tantrums, although much less than a few months ago since I pretty much ignore them.
As far as I go, I have been exhaustingly busy with Luke, my other blog and starting a business with my brother. I generally maintain my other blog during Luke’s naps and work on my business at night after he goes to bed. I’ll get more into what my other business is in due time – we aren’t set to launch for a while so there will be time to explain all that later. In between workish-type things, my time is spent with Luke, taking care of the house, the dogs, the groceries and laundry and cleaning etc etc etc. There really are NOT enough hours in the day. By the time 11pm comes around, I am so tired but always have more to do. Where do people fit it all in? My day is gone before I know it, and I never feel like I got enough done.
By the way, did I ever mention that we adopted Frosty? We did, and every day I am so thankful for that little dog! He is the sweetest animal I have ever met, and his personality reminds me very much of my childhood dog, Misty. Frosty is a very special little dog and is the perfect fit for our family. Aspen and Juno are still wonderful. Sweet little Aspen turns 9 this year, but she is still her normal puppy-like adorable self. Juno is 3 now and is a really chill dog, unless company is over, in which case she tries to be as nutso and annoying as possible (but we love her of course!)
So, there it is – we have three dogs, many jobs to do, a toddler to take care of and a house to maintain. I am up to my eyeballs in To-Do lists and calendars and emails, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
